Individual Budgets are an allocation of funding given to individuals after assessments which are deemed to be sufficient to meet the Individual’s assessed needs. Individuals can take either their Individual Budget as a Direct Payment, or choose the care provider of their choice but leave the social services to commission the services, have some combination of the two.
Individual Budgets are made up of other sources of funding such as independent living fund which is granted to those with severe disabilities living within their community and staying at home instead of residential care.
Both the Direct Payments and Individual Budgets are a central part of the Government’s Personalisation Initiative, which is aimed at giving individuals choice and control over the care services they receive.
